Many of Wirtz Residential’s apartment communities are located near Lake Michigan. Even if you live a little further away from the lake, spending a day at one of Chicago’s beaches is part of what makes summer in Chicago so great. You may think Chicago’s beaches are just for relaxing or giving your dog some exercise. While those activities are always enjoyable, you can do quite a few other things on Chicago’s beaches.
Wi-Fi is available at the North Ave., Hollywood, Montrose, Foster, and Rainbow Beaches. If you’re getting a little stir crazy sitting at your desk all summer, spend the afternoon working at the beach. All you need is your laptop and some sunscreen.
Jet ski rentals are available at both North Avenue Beach and 31st Street Beach. You can even rent one with a GoPro video camera attached so you can relive the good times later. Rentals at North Avenue Beach are available through Jet Skis Chicago and at 31st Street Beach through Chicago Jet Ski Rentals.
Burnham Harbor is just a few steps from 12th Street Beach. It’s a well known fishing spot where you can catch salmon and trout from the shore.
If you decide to go fishing at Burnham Harbor, you may want to make a day trip out of it. Promontory Point at Burnham Harbor has fire pit spots that you can reserve for camp fires. It’s a great spot for have a get together with friends. Be sure to only have a camp fire at these designated spots though, as it is illegal elsewhere.
You’ve probably noticed the beach volleyball court on North Avenue beach. Chicago Sport and Social and Players Sport and Social Group run leagues on the beach that you can join. If you don’t want to join a league, the courts are available on a first-come basis when not in use by the leagues.
Ohio Street Beach is unique because it faces north. This makes it possible to swim in lanes parallel to the shore in shallower water. Triathletes often use the beach for training. It’s a great spot to get a workout in the water (with a nice view too).
