We understand that many of you in studio apartments likely wish you had some more space in your apartment for furniture or storage. What we can’t do is give you more space, but we can give you some ideas on how to maximize the space that you have.
1. First of all, take inventory of what you have. If you have things that you haven’t used in quite a while, it might be time to think about getting rid of it.
2. Using a trunk or a table with drawers will solve many storage issues in the living area of your studio. A trunk would not only solve storage issues, but would likely serve as quite the conversation piece in the room.
3. If you lack closet space, try using space-saving hangers. You can use these to hang multiple items vertically, and you could even use these to organize your shirts and pants by color or style.
4. Don’t try to pack in a lot of places to sit. Try to limit seating to just enough for those who reside there. Have folding furniture for potential visitors stored away.
5. Have windows? Use them as your main source of light as much as possible. Lamps, especially floor-standing lamps, take up valuable real estate in your studio. Hanging-lights, and using built-in fixtures are your studio’s best friends for lighting.
6. Finally, try to use one whole wall, or a half wall if space doesn’t permit use of the entire wall, for shelving. This will not only set aside a single area for storage, but will also serve as a decorative area in your studio that shouldn’t require much space.
