Although summer doesn’t officially start until next week (June 20th), it’s felt like summer for the past couple of weeks in Chicago. Fortunately for those who live in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, there are some great places for ice cream and other cool treats. Below are some of our favorites.
Bobtail has become a Lakeview neighborhood favorite thanks to its old-time ice cream shoppe decor and fantastic homemade ice cream. You can build your own sundae, try a specialty shake or enjoy one of their many flavors of ice cream in a cone or dish. Specialty flavors include the “Lakeview Barhopper”, which is Dutch cocoa ice cream blended with Jack Daniels®. Hand-packed pints are available to-go as well.

If you’re a gelato fan, Paciugo has you covered. Their gelato has 70% less fat than ice cream and comes in 250 different flavors including gingerbread cookie, rose sangria and Bailey’s chocolate chip. Paciugo also also has soy gelato and no-sugar added options.

This small chain features a variety of ice creams, sorbets and frozen yogurts. Time Magazine called their ice cream the “best in America”. They have a variety of unique flavors, including sweet cream biscuits & peach jam, Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso and riesling poached pear sorbet. Scooter’s is another Lakeview favorite. You can watch them make their famous frozen custard daily. It’s made using local ingredients from a family farm in Wisconsin. They have a variety of regular flavors, as well as a special daily flavor. Their menu also includes malts, shakes, sundaes, parfaits and other tasty sweets.
