The Cubs will play their first game of the 2016 playoffs on Friday, October 7 at Wrigley Field. The game starts at 8:15 Central Standard Time (CST). The Cubs will play either the San Francisco Giants or New York Mets, who play in the wild card game on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:09 CST.
The Cubs earned their place in the playoffs by winning the National League Central Division. They clinched the division championship on Thursday, September 15. It is the earliest a MLB team has clinched a division title since the Angels clinched the American League West in 2008.
The Cubs finished the regular season with 103 wins and only 58 losses, which was the best record in Major League Baseball this season. They are only the 99th team in MLB history to win over 100 games in one season.
